| Is imam al-mahdi about to emerge? Posted: 16 Feb 2012 10:16 PM PST By Imran Hosien We have no doubt that certain members of the Ummah of Prophet Muhammad (sallalahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) will be blessed with true dreams and visions which will convey to them information concerning the End-Time advent of Imām al-Mahdi (‘alaihi al-Salām). Readers must know however, that information so obtained cannot be objectively verified, and hence that there is no compulsion on any one to accept such information as truth. This writer has never attempted to use such information in his analysis of events now mysteriously unfolding in the world, and in the Holy Land in particular. Rather he has continuously striven to grasp the ‘system of meaning’ of the subject of the End Times as derived from data located in the Qur’ān and Ahadīth of Prophet Muhammad (sallalahu ‘alaihi wa sallam). He is confident that his students will Insha Allah, continue that effort when he is no longer in this world. His conclusions, based on rational analysis (and intuitive internal insight), must always be qualified with the words Allahu ‘alam (Allah Knows best). Those who are not convinced by his views expressed in this essay or in other writings and lectures, therefore have every right to withhold acceptance. Those on the other hand who reject his views, cannot be recognised as serious critics who deserve a response, unless and until they offer their own ‘correct’ views that are published under a name by which they can be recognized and held accountable. This writer is confident that a reasoned and respectful scholarly dialogue (in response to this and other essays on the subject) will enrich all those who participate with a greater understanding and insight into the subject Insha Allah. The subject of the emergence of Imām al-Mahdi has now assumed truly urgent importance in the world of Islam ̶ Shia as well as Sunni. The misguided followers of the false Prophet of Qadian, Mirza Ghulam Ahmadal-Kazzab, should follow carefully the discussion on this subject so that they may recognize Insha Allah, the falsehood of Mirza’s claims that he was Imām al-Mahdi as well as the Promised Messiah. This subject is of urgent importance since the Anglo-American-Israeli military attack on the Arabs, Pakistan and Iran can be expected at any time now, and we can therefore expect that someone will soon emerge with yet another false claim to be the promised Imām. We warned in an earlier essay that an Israeli attack on Iran would almost certainly provoke the emergence of a Shia claimant to be the promised Imām. We can expect a Sunni claimant on the other hand, when the attack is launched against the Arabs or Pakistan. This essay, written in Buenos Aires in Argentina as I make my way to our Second International Islamic Retreat in Cape Town, attempts to explain the subject of the advent of Imām al-Mahdi in its End-Time context and to thus offer a view concerning the time-line for the emergence of the prophesied Imām. There are some Muslims who, impressed by the views of distinguished scholars such as Ibn Khaldun and Dr Muhammad Iqbal, have rejected belief in the advent of Imām al-Mahdi. Some of them even go on to dismiss our preoccupation with this subject with disdain and with spurious comments. They should be warned that it is not only false but also sinful to argue that those who strive for a deeper understanding of the subject of the advent of Imām al-Mahdi (‘alaihi al-Salām) are a people who are content to sit waiting with folded arms for the Imām while doing nothing to combat falsehood and oppression in the world. Our understanding of the ‘system of meaning’ which harmoniously integrates all data from the Qur’ān andAhadīth pertaining to the End Times, recognizes the return of the true Messiah Jesus the son of the Virgin Mary (peace and blessings of Allah Most High be upon them both) as the Sign of all Signs of the End Times (see ‘An Islamic View of Gog and Magog in the Modern World’); hence the subject of the emergenceImām al-Mahdi must be harmoniously integrated with that momentous return. It is logically inconsistent that a wise God, whose creation is flawless, should send the true Messiah back to this world before Dajjāl the false Messiah has completed his mission of impersonating the true Messiah. That mission of impersonation would not be complete until he publicly proclaims that he is the promised Messiah. In addition, I believe that no learned Jew would ever respond seriously to any claimant to be the promised Messiah unless that claimant is a Jew, he makes his claim from within the Holy Land (Jerusalem to be specific), and makes his claim while offering overt evidence that he has already established his rule (or has the capacity to do so) over the world in general and in particular over the Arab/Muslim world that surrounds the Holy Land on all sides. I hold this view since the Jewish scriptures proclaim the advent of a Messiah who will rule the world (eternally) from the throne of David (‘alaihi al-Salām). I have argued in ‘Jerusalem in the Qur’an’ as well as in other writings, that Dajjāl’s ‘day like a month’ is now coming to an end and that his ‘day like a week’ is about to commence. The evidence which emerges from the ‘system of meaning’ of the subject is that the passage from a ‘day like a month’ to a ‘day like a week’ cannot occur without great wars which will result in the loss of millions of lives. This is what occurred during the passage from a ‘day like a year’ to a ‘day like a month’. When those wars do break out, and that should sadly be soon, then those who consider this writer to be rightly-guided (or at least not misguided) would understand what is happening in the world and as a consequence should neither be confused nor enter into a state of despair. They would also consider the following present facts to be pertinent when answering the question which is the topic of this essay: Israel has not as yet established her control over the Arab/Muslim world that surrounds the Euro-Jewish State; The territory of the State of Israel has not as yet expanded to encompass the frontiers of the Holy Land as (falsely) delineated in the Torah; Israel has not as yet replaced USA as the ruling State in the world; No Jew has as yet (i.e., in recent times) proclaimed himself to be the Promised Messiah. The evidence is therefore clear that Imām al-Mahdi cannot emerge at this time. Such would be inconsistent with the ‘system of meaning’ which integrates all End-Time data in a harmonious whole. Our view, and Allah Knows best, is that the Imām can only emerge at that time when Dajjāl’s ‘day like a week’ has come to an end and he has emerged in human form in our world of space and time. This is so for the following reason: A Hadīth in the Sahīh of Imām al-Bukhāri informs us that the advent of the Imām will be contemporaneous with the return of Jesus (‘alaihi al-Salaam): “How will you be (at that time) when the son of Mary descends amongst you and your Imām will (at that time) be from amongst yourselves (i.e., a Muslim).” (Sahīh Bukhāri) Those who wish to do so can hold the view that a period for as long as 20 or 30 years can elapse between the advent of the Imām and the return of Jesus (‘alaihi al-Salām). We hold a different view. We believe that the State of Israel – and the Gog and Magog world-order which support that Euro-Jewish State – will respond with desperate speed to the Imām’s appearance in Makkah, and would attempt to eliminate him without delay. If this is true, then as soon as the Imām makes his appearance at the Holy Ka’aba and proclaims himself to be the promised Imām, events can be expected to move rapidly towards a confrontation with those who control power in the world. That confrontation will eventually lead to a personal confrontation between the Imām and Dajjāl as described in the Hadīth in Sahīh Muslim. That in turn, would be the moment when Jesus (‘alaihi al-Salām) will descend from the sky “with the hands resting on the wings of two angels”. Our conclusion therefore, is that only a brief period of time will elapse between the advent of the Imām and the return of Jesus (‘alaihi al-Salām). Since we also argue that Jesus (‘alaihi al-Salām) will not return until Dajjāl the false Messiah has completed his mission and publicly claimed to be the Messiah, it follows that the world may have to wait for at least another two or three decades for the blessed Imām to emerge and for events to then rapidly escalate until Jesus (‘alaihi al-Salām) returns, Dajjāl is killed, Gog and Magog are destroyed, and Khilāfah is restored in Jerusalem. And Allah Knows best! Our gentle readers must strive to remain ever vigilant during the time which remains before the Imām emerges, however long that may be, not to be deceived by the false Imāms who are certain to soon emerge, and who would faithfully follow in the misguided footsteps of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani. I would be surprised if the Israeli Mossad/CIA has not already groomed a suitable candidate. End http://www.imranhosein.org/articles/…to-emerge.html Thanks kh@n;) |
| Battling it out: Papers filed, negotiations to begin in Sindh Posted: 16 Feb 2012 09:31 PM PST
KARACHI: With more than two candidates per seat, no applicant was declared unofficial winner in Sindh's Senate nominations on Thursday. The provincial election commission, after scrutinising the nomination papers, cleared 29 candidates to contest the upcoming election on 12 available seats. Nomination papers cleared included those of ruling Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) Raza Rabbani, Saeed Ghani, Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Rashid Rabbani, Mukhtiar Ahmed and Dr Kareem Khawaja, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional's (PML-F) Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah and Manghan Mangrio, Muttahida Qaumi Movement's (MQM) Syed Mustafa Kamal, Nasreen Jalil, Kanwar Naveed Jameel and Dr Farouqh Naseem and PML-Q (Likeminded)'s Gaffar Qureshi. Meanwhile, applications of MQM's Umar Khan Sherzai and PML-Q (Likeminded)'s Mangal Das Arwani were rejected by the provincial election commissioner. Arwani and Sherzai had filed their nominations for technocrat and general seats respectively. Sixteen candidates from various parties applied for general seats, five for reserved seats for women, six for technocrats and five for minorities. Negotiations with partners The ruling PPP wanted to retain eight of the 12 seats in the upcoming elections, leaving three for MQM and one for PML-F, said sources privy to the development. Due to pressure from the MQM, however, the PPP agreed to reduce its share from eight to seven. Four candidates of PPP will be elected on general seats, and one each on minority, women and technocrat seats, sources said. Raza Rabbani, Saeed Ghani, Mukhtiar Ahmed and Kareem Khawaja will contest on general seats, Hafeez Shaikh on technocrat, Hari Ram Kishori Lal on minority seat and Muddassir Sehar Kamran on women seat. "Rashid Rabbani was the candidate for another general seat, but party has decided to drop him," party sources said. The government has also started approaching its coalition partners and opposition parties in Sindh to contest the elections unopposed. Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Khurshid Shah has been entrusted to negotiate with former chief minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim who has nominated his candidates to contest the election. During the scrutiny process, a large number of PPP leaders, led by Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, reached election commission office along with their candidates. Raza Haroon of MQM and Jam Madad Ali of PML-F also lead their candidates to the commission. After the scrutiny process, the chief minister said the government was trying to elect senators unopposed and had started negotiating with leaders of various political parties in this regard. | Killer drug suo motu: SC orders protesting doctors to get back to work Posted: 16 Feb 2012 09:16 PM PST
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered protesting doctors at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) to resume their duties, while seeking a fresh report from the Punjab chief secretary into the ongoing conflict between PIC's doctors and the provincial administration. The court reminded protesting doctors that their boycott was undermining a fundamental right of patients, which is their right to live. Members of the Young Doctors Association continued protesting outside the PIC on Wednesday, demanding that senior doctors, who had been removed from their positions, be reinstated. A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Shakirullah Jan, will resume the hearing on Friday, February 17 of a suo motu case on the deaths of patients from spurious medicines provided free of cost by the PIC. The court also directed the province's health secretary and advocate-general to appear before the court on Friday's hearing. SC registrar Dr Faqir Hussain Khokar also asked Punjab Chief Secretary Nasir Khosa to submit details of the protesting doctors and why they had been suspended. A January 30 court order said that the responsible authority must conduct a transparent inquiry according to the law, fix responsibility and propose action on matters that had arisen after the PIC medicine disaster. "All doctors/officers/manufacturers of the relevant drugs shall fully cooperate with the inquiry which shall be concluded expeditiously. However, no such doctor or a person required in such investigation or inquiry shall be arrested and any doctor arrested in this regard shall be released forthwith subject to his personal bonds to the satisfaction of the deputy registrar (judicial) of the Lahore High Court," the order stated. | Contempt case: ‘PM will not advise president to pardon him, if convicted’ Posted: 16 Feb 2012 08:46 PM PST While many are speculating over the Supreme Court's verdict in the contempt case against Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, those who see the premier being 'sacrificed' for the sake of the ruling-government will be disappointed, says Aitzaz Ahsan, and to top it off the premier's counsel believes that Gilani will manage to steer clear from the Supreme Court's wrath without seeking a presidential pardon. Talking to Express News host Kamran Shahid, Aitzaz said that the "prime minister will not advise the president to pardon him, if convicted." During the course of the show, Ahsan broke down the entire process by which the prime minister would be forced to relinquish his seat in the National Assembly, and hence his post as a result of his disqualification. "The entire process could take months," Aitzaz said. He went on to divulge that not all convictions led to disqualifications. "Once the verdict comes, the case will be put before the Speaker of the National Assembly, where the speaker will have 30 days from the time the resolution is moved to decide whether Gilani can be disqualified due to the verdict," he said. Even if the speaker declares the PM as disqualified, the matter then has to be deliberated before the election commission, which has to decide within 90 days whether this verdict disqualifies Gilani as an member of the National Assembly. Even then, the prime minister can challenge the election commission's ruling, he added. Aitzaz, however, was hopeful that he may still be able to persuade the seven-member Supreme Court bench that the prime minister was not in contempt. "The case was closed on merit," Ahsan said, adding that writing a letter to the Swiss authorities would bring the money back. "To get money out of Swiss accounts, the government would need to file a civil suit in Switzerland." However, he said that "the time bar for filing this case has passed," adding that even if the government wanted, there is no way of retrieving the money. | Memogate commission: Mansoor Ijaz submits 83-page statement Posted: 16 Feb 2012 08:31 PM PST
ISLAMABAD: Mansoor Ijaz, the central character behind the Memogate scandal, on Thursday submitted an 83-page statement to the judicial commission through his counsel in Pakistan Advocate Akram Sheikh revealing details from the saga. In his statement, Ijaz not only confirmed his meeting with Pasha in London on October 22 but also gave details of the interaction he had with President Asif Ali Zardari on May 5, 2009 at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel in Washington DC at the invitation of former ambassador Hussain Haqqani. About his relationship with Haqqani, he mentioned that they maintained regular contact over the past decade through e-mail, BlackBerry messenger exchanges, and meetings in person. Apart from his witness statement, Ijaz requested the commission for in-camera briefing for certain comments that he noted saying "because the disclosures are not appropriate for this statement that can be viewed by others". Giving a rationale for disclosing the memo in the press, he said he was forced to write the Financial Times op-ed piece because of the confusion created by the media. "The impetus for the article, which I drafted the first thoughts for on 24 September 2011, arose from testimony offered by Admiral Mullen in his final appearance before the Senate Armed Services Committee in which he called the Haqqani network of terrorists a "veritable arm" of the ISI, among other very strong comments", Ijaz explained in the statement. Apart from Ijaz's statement secretary to the memo commission Raja Jawad Abbas is due in UK to receive evidence and gadgets used in drafting the memo. Although Ijaz has submitted his witness statement to the commission, the defendant and other petitioners will cross examine Ijaz along with commission's members on February 22 via video link. | National internship programme: Internees not paid stipends for 4 months Posted: 16 Feb 2012 08:16 PM PST
ISLAMABAD: The fourth batch of the National Internship Programme (NIP), about 2,500 people, has not been paid stipends for the last four months. Initiated in 2007, the programme aimed to absorb the unemployed youth as internees in different government departments. Each was given a monthly stipend of Rs10,000. The fourth batch's internship ended last month. Officials familiar with the matter said the stipends were delayed after the programme was transferred from the establishment division to the newly-created Ministry of Professional Development and Trainings. Initially running under the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the plan was devolved in the first phase along with provinces under the 18th Constitutional Amendment. After the devolution, the provinces refused to resume the programme, citing shortage of funds. But the programme continued to run in the domain of federal government including Islamabad Capital Territory, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas under the establishment division. The programme was transferred to its new home about four months ago. NIP Director General (DG) Muntazir Hussain said that some payments were delayed due to the transferring of the programme from the establishment division to the new ministry. However, he added, they have made all the payments to those working in the government corporations up to December 2011, and the remaining would be soon released. DG Hussain conceded that the payments of the internees working in government universities have been delayed due to an issue with their vendor numbers. "We have asked the universities to send us the details of internees so the ministry can release funds to the universities instead of releasing them directly to the internees," he added. | Debate: Talks, not war, solution to the Afghan imbroglio: former ambassador Posted: 16 Feb 2012 07:31 PM PST A former ambassador on Thursday advocated talks and not war to resolve the Afghan imbroglio. "The time has come to wage peace and not war in Afghanistan by supporting the search for a negotiated settlement," asserted former ambassador Dr Maleeha Lodhi, said a press release. She was participating in the first of a series of debates being organised by the Islamabad-based Institute of Strategic Studies to discuss the foreign policy issue, the institute said in the press statement. The subject under debate was: "Given its domestic and strategic vulnerability, Pakistan has no option but to support and participate in the US-led 'War on Terror' in Afghanistan." Dr Lodhi stated that a review of the country's foreign policy should be undertaken as part of a wider regional and global geo-strategic re-evaluation and not be US-centric. She said Pakistan needs to adapt to an increasingly multi-polar world in which power is shifting from the West to the East and the era of large-scale military interventions is coming to an end. The 9/11 era is over and with that the 9/11 wars are being wound up. The US has already pulled out from Iraq and has set 2014 as the deadline for the drawdown of most Nato combat troops from Afghanistan. It should not be domestic vulnerability that dictates foreign policy alignment, but convergence of interests with other countries including the US, she said. Dr Lodhi felt a convergence had emerged, possibly for the first time in a decade, between Pakistan and the US on seeking a political solution to end the Afghan war. This affords an opportunity to Pakistan for active and energetic engagement to secure its goal of peace, stability, an end to violence in the region and end to drone strikes in Pakistan. Recalling the devastation wrought by America's "misguided" war on terror in the past 10 years, she questioned whether war was ever the appropriate response to terrorism. However America, she added, now seems to have moved beyond the 9/11 era after the elimination of Bin Laden and the degradation of the al Qaeda threat. By declaring there is no military solution to the Afghan conflict and entering direct talks with the Taliban to find a political settlement, America is seeking a way out of a costly and prolonged involvement, she said. This is a welcome development from the perspective of Pakistan which has long called for an early end to a war which has been destabilising for Pakistan. The US is now pursuing a path Pakistan had advocated 10 years ago, a diplomatic path based on drawing a distinction between al Qaeda and the Taliban. Dr Lodhi also made a strong case for Pakistan to address the sources of its internal weaknesses by its own efforts rather than relying on its foreign alignment to resolve its vulnerability, which she said was an exercise in futility.
